Desmond flashes before your eyes8/17/2023 ![]() Their meeting always happened… we’re just tricked into seeing it as an audience from the perspective of present day island Desmond so it seems like he’s changing his past- whereas we are just seeing the only thing that ever happened. He believes he’s travelled in time, so he consults his physicist friend. He’s just become in touch with his future self, for whom these things have already happened, so present life now feels like a deja vu. ![]() He’s wrestling with this sudden feeling of deja vu, even though this is, for his 1996 self, the first time these events in London are happening. He suddenly has all these new memories, or downloads about his future. This causes him to have a flash of his future on the island, pressing the button, blowing the failsafe. He’s on a ladder painting a room, he falls off the ladder and hits his head. We have to view the events of Flashes Before Your Eyes from 1996 Desmond’s perspective. But why would the revelation that he has indeed seen that soccer game before make him more confident he can change his fate? If anything it should have the effect of showing him that he’s definitely stuck on the same timeline where he goes to the island. He then gets up in a hurry and says “I can still change things!”. Then he goes to the pub, depressed, sees the soccer game on TV and realizes “I just had the wrong night!”. Desmond is convinced enough by Eloise that it’s his fate to go to the island, that he breaks up with Penny instead of proposing to her. Any theories?Īlso, another part of this episode confuses me. Is she a time lord? There seems to be a lot about her character that is not revealed in the text of the show. She tries to slow Desmond’s roll there too. Is this only her first go round since she shot Daniel Faraday on the island, and she has simply studied where and when she needs to be to maintain the sanctity of the time line? If so, how did she later know the guy with the red shoes would get crushed by the scaffolding? Is Eloise caught in a time loop herself until she gets things right (like Desmond trying to keep Charlie alive)? Is she using Faraday’s invention to send her consciousness back in time (Faraday’s rat was named Eloise)? Is the actual ring shop owner unconscious in the other room? Is Eloise omniscient? Was she granted powers by Jacob to carry out this work getting people where they need to be? Was she seduced by the smoke monster and is (wittingly or unwittingly) doing his bidding? She’s also very aware in Season 6 in the Bardo realm. She lays out exactly what he’s supposed to do, including the boat race around the world and crashing on the island. In 308 ‘Flashes Before Your Eyes,’ in the ring shop, Eloise tells Desmond he has to go to the island and push the button or else everyone will die, so to “give her back the sodding ring.” Commercial break. Bipolar transistor charging8/17/2023 Numerical simulations clarify the principles of transistor operation and present routes towards further optimization. Here we demonstrate that OBJTs based on crystalline rubrene thin films provide a promising route towards gigahertz organic electronics. We have demonstrated previously the excellent device potential of such highly ordered films by showing record-high vertical charge carrier mobilities that enabled ultrafast diode devices to operate in the gigahertz range 26. In contrast to common furnace-grown single crystals, these films are made directly on the surface of a substrate and are thus compatible with mass production. Here, we realize an OBJT based on crystalline films of n- and p-type doped rubrene. In comparison to exciton diffusion, they can be expected to be in the nanometre range, at least for typical disordered organic films 23, 24, 25. Charge carrier minority diffusion lengths have remained unexplored in OSC materials until now. Majority carrier diffusion length in fullerenes has been estimated to be on the centimetre scale, raising interesting questions about carrier diffusion physics in OSCs 21, 22. Most studies have addressed exciton diffusion, which dominates owing to the weak dielectric screening in organic compounds 19, 20. However, organic bipolar junction transistors (OBJTs) have not yet been realized, mainly because they rely on minority carrier diffusion through a thin and precisely doped base layer. Although they have disadvantages with regard to miniaturization and process integration, bipolar transistors possess substantially higher operational speeds than comparable field-effect devices 18. However, other factors, such as contact resistance and overlap capacitances, often limit further improvement of operational frequencies 16, 17.Ī device that offers both low capacitance and contact resistance is the bipolar junction transistor. Reducing the length of transistor channels is an effective strategy for improving the operational speed of the device, as shown both in FET 13, 14 and other device concepts such as organic permeable-base transistors 11, 15. The substantially lower charge carrier mobility in organic semiconductors (OSCs) compared with their inorganic counterparts is a limitation to the performance of organic transistors. Nevertheless, they are still restricted to the low-to-medium megahertz range, which does not allow broad application 12, 13, 14. Organic field-effect transistors (FET) were first reported in 1986 and have shown impressive improvements in the past two decades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. Our results open the door to new device concepts of high-performance organic electronics with ever faster switching speeds. ![]() These bipolar transistors also give insight into the minority carrier diffusion length-a key parameter in organic semiconductors. Here we present organic bipolar transistors with outstanding device performance: a previously undescribed vertical architecture and highly crystalline organic rubrene thin films yield devices with high differential amplification (more than 100) and superior high-frequency performance over conventional devices. The potential of organic electronics can be leveraged only if the performance of organic transistors is improved markedly. Among materials systems suitable for thin-film electronics, organic semiconductors are of particular interest their low cost, biocompatible carbon-based materials and deposition by simple techniques such as evaporation or printing enable organic semiconductor devices to be used for ubiquitous electronics, such as those used on or in the human body or on clothing and packages 1, 2, 3. Devices made using thin-film semiconductors have attracted much interest recently owing to new application possibilities. Stephanie lazarus 20208/17/2023 ![]() A DNA analyst compared saliva traces from the soda can to the Rasmussen bite mark residue. That year, a detective who had followed the suspect to a Costco store retrieved a soda can she had thrown into a trash container. In 2009, after Stephanie Lazarus retired from the force as a highly decorated detective specializing in art theft, the cold-case investigators turned their attention to her. While members of Sherri's family suspected that Stephanie Lazarus had killed Sherri, the LAPD, perhaps unwilling to investigate one of their own, stayed with the intruder theory. In 2005, a DNA analysis of the saliva traces swabbed from the victim's bite wound revealed that the killer was a woman. The 1986 Sherri Ruetten case fell into that category. In 2005, the LAPD formed a squad of cold-case investigators who re-opened hundreds of old, unsolved murders that featured biological evidence capable of being DNA tested. That year she married a fellow police officer and shortly thereafter the couple had a daughter. In 1993 the LAPD promoted Lazarus to detective. (From saliva, a forensic serologist at the time could only determine the donor's blood type.) Detectives on the case, thinking that Sherri Ruetten had interrupted a burglar, did not suspect officer Stephanie Lazarus. The Los Angeles County coroner estimated that the 29-year-old victim had been murdered around noon.Ī crime scene investigator, in the era before DNA identification, had the presence of mind to swab the victim's bite mark with cotton and place the sealed evidence in the coroner's freezer. Dressed in a red robe and a pink T-shirt, Sherri Ruetten had been struck over the head with a heavy vase, tied-up, beaten, bitten and shot to death. At six that evening, John Ruetten returned to his townhouse in the San Fernando Valley to find his wife of three months sprawled on her back on the living room carpet. Stephanie Lazarus also took a day off from the LAPD. ![]() On the morning of February 24, 1986, Sherri Ruetten (nee Rasmussen), still employed at the hospital, called in sick. ![]() Notwithstanding Lazarus' smoldering objection, Ruetten and Rasmussen were married in November 1985. At one point Lazarus threatened that if she couldn't have John Ruetten nobody could. At the hospital where Rasmussen worked as a nursing supervisor, the jilted, distraught cop confronted her rival. Lazarus responded to the revelation by becoming hysterical. A year later Ruetten shocked Lazarus with the news that he was marrying a woman named Sherri Rasmussen. In 1984, Stephanie joined the Los Angeles Police Department as a patrol officer. But for John Ruetten, it wasn't a serious relationship. After college, Lazarus and Ruetten continued to see each other and even took trips together. In the early 1980s, Stephanie Lazarus, a student at UCLA, fell in love with John Ruetten who also attended the university.
